UPDATE: Brasserie Zentral is now open in downtown Minneapolis, serving a tasty new spin on Old Word cuisine. The restaurant in the Soo Line Building has quite the knack for refined continental dishes with Austrian flair.
Downtown Minneapolis will soon be home to a new concept from Russell and Desta Klein, the team behind Meritage in St. Paul. Inside the historic Soo Line building, the couple is working on a restaurant complex -- complete with a brasserie, skyway-level cafe, wine bar, and wine and cheese shop -- and the brasserie, the first piece of the building's mega makeover, is getting ready to open.
The couple has yet to post a menu, but the cuisine will pull inspiration from brasseries across Europe. In addition to the culinary expertise of chef Russell Klein, Brasserie Zentral will draw on the experience of chef de cuisine Troy Unruh, who has spent time working in such famous New York kitchens as David Bouley's Danube and Mario Batali/Lidia and Joe Bastianich's Del Posto.
