Total bummer. Pak Zam Zam, the city's first Pakistani restaurant, appears to be closed. Just when word was starting to spread and the owners, the Qadir family, had put up a nice lookin' website...and now the phone's disconnected and the lights were dark when I drove past last Saturday night at 7 p.m. It was such a loveable place with its friendly staff, low-key ambiance, and uncommonly good cooking: chapli kabab, chicken biryani, and the best dal I've ever tasted. When I reviewed Pak Zam Zam, I called it the underdog you want to root for as hard as you did for Jamal in Slumdog Millionaire. I know that happy endings are more common in Hollywood than the restaurant business, but here's to hoping the Qadirs get a second crack at it.
