RIP Clicquot Club Cafe

It was with great sadness that I discovered the Cliquot Club Cafe had closed last week.

Years ago, I fell in love with the old Wilson's Grocery--or the Orange Crush building, as I called it, for the faded advertisement on the little brick building's east side--thinking it was the perfect place to put myself and all my worldy posessions, had it been zoned for residental use. Instead, a couple of ambitious entrepreneurs spiffed up the building and turned it into a bright-and-shiny cafe/coffee shop.

For three years, the Cliquot Club was one of the spots that helped the Seward feel more like a community, where neighbors gathered for hot cups of coffee, sandwiches, and soups, and now that it's closed, it seems the Birchwood Cafe will have to do double duty.
