When Ramen Attacks: This is no vintage Japanese horror/sci-fi flick, and there's nothing spooky about it. Eight serious chefs from local and national kitchens converge on the Mill City Museum to honor the art of ramen but also in hopes of kicking cancer's ass, as well as to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Zen Box and just have an all-around slurpy good time.
This year's event will be held on Sunday, September 27, beginning at noon.
The following chefs will be presenting ramen creations:
Keizo Shimamoto, Ramen Shack in New York City
Justin Carlisle, Red Light Ramen by Ardent in Milwaukee
Jorge Guzman, Surly Brewer's Table in Minneapolis
Jack Reibel, Il Foro & Paddy Shack in Minneapolis
John Ng, Zen Box Izakaya in Minneapolis
Also, chef demonstrations by the following:
Kenshiro Uki, Ramen Lab & Sun Noodle in NYC
Diane Yang, Spoon & Stable in Minneapolis
Thomas Boemer, Corner Table & Revival in Minneapolis
Other stuff to imbibe, ingest, and enjoy:
Surly Brewing Co.
Frio Frio MN Ice Lollies
Kaishin Dojo Kendo Performers
Mu Daiko Drummers
Seven Dragons Kempo Martial Arts Team
Music by DJ Steez
The deal on admission:
Admission is free, but this year organizers are offering a "Ramen Passport," which should assist with the long lines that the event has been plagued with in past years. If you're going more to eat ramen than to mix and mingle, you're "strongly encouraged" to purchase one of these puppies. Here's what a $40 passport gets you:
Two tickets for ramen
One street snack ticket
One dessert ticket
Two beverage tickets
Same-day admission for one to museum exhibits including guest chef demonstrations (first some, first serve)
Additional individual tickets for ramen will be available for cash only onsite on a first come, first served basis until items run out. Passports go on sale September 8. Go to the Zen Box Izakaya Ramen Attack event page on that day for ticket sales information.
