Though we're all still in the throes of heartbreak over Prince Rogers Nelson's untimely death, his birthday is fast approaching. Pizzeria Lola has devised an honorable way to celebrate his life and his legacy. On Tuesday, June 7, they'll donate 100 percent of their profits to the Mixed Blood Theatre, an organization that Prince and his team have long supported.
Mixed Blood was scheduled to celebrate its 40th anniversary fundraiser with a very special event at Paisley Park this year, but due to Prince's death, the event was canceled. Pizzeria Lola owner Ann Kim was an actor on the Mixed Blood stage. She wants to pay it forward a bit, and "make Prince proud," she says.
So next Tuesday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., enjoy food, tunes by Prince, and specials, which include include a one-night-only Prince-inspired pizza, wood-roasted purple cauliflower, birthday cake, and raspberry sorbet.
Chef Thomas Boemer of Corner Table and Revival has hand-crafted a custom pizza peel honed out of Purple Heart wood in the exact dimensions of a 1962 Fender Stratocaster, which will be used to place the special Prince-inspired pizzas into the oven.
Guests are encouraged to wear purple clothing, concert shirts, or anything else that celebrates the life of Prince.
