The event will include music, food, and drink to toast the opening of another season of presenting opera in urban gardens. Chef Nick Schneider will assemble a locavore nosh table and the Hummingbirds ukulele quartet and Operetta singers will provide a sample of music from this year's forthcoming Picnic Operetta, Alcina's Island. Suggested donation is $25.
The menu includes a selection of vegetable crudite, pickled vegetables and crostini, the famous Spoon River chicken and duck liver pâté, baba ghanoush, pork rillettes, grilled Mediterranean vegetable platters, chickpea pesto salad, and seasonal antipasti that will be featured in Alcina's Island.
This year's Operetta will feature the classical music of Handel and country classics Dave Dudley, Kitty Welles, Tammy Wynette and George Jones accompanying a swashbuckling adventure. The Operetta is also recruiting volunteers to help harvest veggies, and prepare food with chef Schneider. To get involved, email volunteer coordinator, Scottie Hall at [email protected]
