Peterson Popcorn has locked the doors of their original location in the St. Paul skyway after 37 years of business.
The family owned and operated business has occupied their St. Paul space since 1977, but added a location in Inver Grove Heights this past March. Now, the popcorn and ice cream store will consolidate locations and relocate entirely to Inver Grove Heights.
Store owner Tom Greengard credited the move to the proximity of Inver Grove Heights, "I'm getting old and [the Inver Grove store] is closer to home, so it works better for us," he said.
The darkened windows and locked door of the St. Paul store have raised questions from St. Paul customers. Peterson Popcorn moved from their skyway location with no previous notice.
"We didn't publicly announce the closure because we weren't sure about it until right before our lease was up," Greengard said. A simple sign on the door announcing their relocation is now all that remains of the St. Paul Peterson.
On the other hand, the new Inver Grove Heights location is thriving. Peterson Popcorn has been enthusiastic via Facebook since March about their newer locale, and has expressed appreciation for the welcoming Inver Grove Heights community.
"We're working really well here," Greengard said. "We're certainly settled in Inver Grove for now, but you never know for the future."
Greengard had these words for loyal St. Paul Peterson Popcorn customers: "It was 37 years of fun."
