Murray's Steakhouse loses a member of the family
The owner of Murray's Steakhouse, the downtown Minneapolis restaurant institution, has passed away, it was confirmed today. Pat Murray took over the operation of Murray's Steakhouse, home of the butterknife steak, from his parents in 1960. Art and Marie Murray had opened the restaurant in 1933 as the Red Feather Cafe.
The restaurant, with its distinctive neon lighting and otherworldly steak has long drawn an elite crowd of recognizable Minnesota names, including Mondale, Humphrey, Hartman, and Keillor.
