The iconic sign disappears soon.
Poised to serve its last dish this week, downtown Minneapolis's skyway stalwart Palomino is about to close its doors and make way for new tenant Crave. Until then, it's gonna be a whole lotta happy hour going on. In addition, the restaurant will host a Last Call party on Saturday, Dec. 11, as its last hurrah with part of the proceeds going to the House of Charity. We know, we know -- we're supposed to describe the place to you, but you know this 19-year-old windows on Hennepin location and its pink striped tubular lighting fixtures by now, don't you?
A faded rose from days gone by, Palomino is worth checking out if you have nostalgia or want to pay your respects. The good part is that the happy hour is fairly accessible, as it runs all day Sunday through Thursday and two times on Friday and Saturday. The down side is that some of the apps are still a little spendy. But enough quibbling -- it's decidedly worth it to take a trip down memory lane, especially if you enjoy the half-priced wine offer. Heck, we rather like the meatballs and artichoke crab dip and would be happy to partake in a $5 Long Island Ice Tea, especially knowing that this is the final dance.
