Fall's favorite holiday coming to New Bohemia
E. Katie Holm
Fall is on the way and that means it's time to break out the lederhosen. Oktoberfest celebrations are nearly here, and the folks at New Bohemia Wurst + Bierhause in Nordeast are ready to kick up their heels, slap some knees, and toss back a few brews. Here's the lowdown on the weekend-long bash.
This is the first year this aptly named spot for sausage and suds will be hosting an Oktoberfest. From September 20-22, there will be music, games, the aforementioned lederhosen, plenty of beer, and the best of their wurst. Admission is just $3, and that money will be donated to Jared Allen's Home for Wounded Warriors.
Prior to the event (September 13 via the restaurant's Facebook page
), New Bohemia will select the Lord Mayor of New Bohemia, who will receive the honor of tapping the first keg on Friday at 5 p.m. to kick off the party.
The tent setup will mimic the tents of Munich. Ten breweries will be pouring 20 varieties of beer, including samples from Bad Weather, Lucid, and Third Street. For those attendees who would like to sample a little bit of everything, a beer taster's passport costs $40 (in addition to the basic cost of admission), which includes a souvenir beer mug, Oktoberfest T-shirt, and unlimited beer tasting on the day of the event.
The sausage selection will include traditional bratwurst as well as some made with rattlesnake, rabbit, and alligator meat. Pair them up with an enormous soft pretzel, roast corn, and Bavarian desserts.
Entertainment will include live bands, mug hoist competitions, keg bowling, a lederhosen contest, and a wurst eating contest.
