My Burger: A first look

Any promising new burger joint in Uptown would pique my interest, and My Burger was no exception. Located just next to the Yogurt Lab on 3100 Excelsior Blvd., My Burger boasts a brightly colored interior with a lot of green and orange and a smattering of modern minimalist decor.

The menu allows for quite a bit of variation. American, Swiss, cheddar, pepper jack, or blue cheese can be added to your burger for just 50 cents. Bacon, mushrooms, or even a fried egg can be added for a dollar, and various spices or sauces (including Cajun seasoning, jerk spices, teriyaki sauce, or BBQ sauce) can also be added for 50 cents to make your own burger.

Most of the burgers start at $5.45 or $6.75 for a double, though a fancy burger (Cajun bacon, Mushroom and Swiss or Bacon blue cheese) can run as high as $6.95.

Placing an order is quick and easy; My Burger was not too busy, even on a Friday night. The kitchen was a well-oiled machine and employees actually seemed fairly happy...a far cry from most blatantly understaffed burger joints.

We ordered a double cheeseburger and a chicken burger ($5.75) and were pleasantly surprised by how fresh everything tasted. The burgers are never frozen and did not fall apart. The chicken sandwich was very well-seasoned; not overloaded with mayo like most chicken sandwiches you find. Even the French fries tasted fresh. Our only complaint was with the onion rings, which didn't really taste very oniony. Still, My Burger offers a fresh burger with a nice choice of personal customization, a fresh flavor and a decent price. The reusable aluminum boxes are also a nice bonus for the eco-conscious. And the orange signage and modern-art flair makes it a fun place to hang out. The shakes and malts aren't half-bad either.
