Dairy Building malt flavors at the State Fair are about as sacred as Princess Kay butter sculptures, the Ferris wheel, and the aroma of fresh cow shit in the air. In other words, if it ain't strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, or rhubarb, we don't want it. Don't mess with our tradition.
Until now, perhaps. The Minnesota Dairy Association is proposing three new malt flavors for the coming Minnesota State Fair, and if you're already fired up about the prospect, here's your chance to vent. Or at least, vote. How to do it:
Now through Monday, May 25, you can vote on the new malt flavor, which will be chosen from these three contenders:
Sweet Honey Cornbread (cornbread and honey in vanilla ice cream)
Chocolate Ripple Effect (ripple potato chips in chocolate ice cream)
Salted Caramel Puff (puffcorn and caramel in vanilla ice cream)
Maybe right now you are screaming this phrase: "Keep yer gotdern cornbread off mah ice cream!" Or maybe that's just us.
In any case, be the change you wish to see in this world by visiting here for a vote.
The chosen flavor will be available at this year's fair.
Spoiler: Salted Caramel Puff is currently winning, with 46 percent of the vote.
This year's Minnesota State Fair runs from August 27 through September 7, and the Dairy Goodness Bar, located in the Dairy Building (corner of Judson and Underwood), will feature a location where visitors can offer suggestions for the 2016 flavor. Yep, they're not leaving our traditions alone.
