Mill City Bread Festival this weekend
Mill City Farmers Market and the Mill City Museum are joining forces to celebrate the Bread Festival, sponsored by Gold Medal Flour. This will be the first of an annual event celebrating the traditions of American bread-baking.
The festival will include demonstrations and a bread-baking contest. Here are details:
Bring the kids and have them try their hand at creating their own grain art, and experiment with the process of turning wheat into flour using a variety of machinery, like a roller mill. You can also learn the history and technology behind how Minneapolis became the flour-milling capital of the world.
Baking demonstrations will be conducted by Jeff Hertberg and Zoe Francois, creators of Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a Day, and Michelle Gayer of Salty Tart Bakery. Home bakers can enter a bread contest. Showcase your baking talents and have your creations judged by a panel of experts, including Steve Horton, owner of Rustica Bakery. Submissions are accepted until the morning of the event. For more details on the contest and to pre-register, follow this link: Bread Contest
Make an afternoon out of it and stay for live music by Potluck and the Hot Dishes. And as always, you can try the many fantastic samples at the farmers market--and get your shopping done at the same time.
