Tickets go on sale today for Meritage's first annual Oysterfest, a daylong celebration of the shuckable beasts to take place on Sunday, October 9.
If you can't tell a Kusshi from a Kumomoto, this is your chance to taste various East and West Coast oysters, including the prized Olympia, at sucking stations manned by several American oyster farmers.
The fest begins at noon and lasts into the evening, with seminars on oyster farming systems and other mollusk minutiae scheduled throughout the afternoon.
Here's what else is in store:[jump]
Lift Bridge Brewery will debut its Oyster Stout--made from Meritage's leftover oyster shells--and guests can learn how to pair the mollusks with wine, beer, and cocktails. Local chefs will compete in an oyster-shucking contest, and live music begins at 6 p.m.
Tickets cost $25 and include a punch card for a dozen oysters, a pint of Oyster Stout, and a commemorative pint glass. (Other seafood items will be available for purchase, including fried clams and lobster rolls.) Seminars cost an additional $15.
VIP passes cost $100 and include unlimited oysters, all three seminars, the pint of Oyster Stout with souvenir glass, plus two additional beverage tokens, and entry into drawings for a pearl necklace and a "Champagne and Oyster Reception for Two" at Meritage.
