Le Meridien

The Goldilocks restaurant space at the base of

Le Méridien

hotel has had a bit of difficulty finding the perfect fit. First, nationally known chef Jean Georges Vongerichten came and went, then the D'Amicos tried their hand. Now we know the third restaurant that will move into the downtown Minneapolis hotel. Craig Bentdahl, owner of St. Louis Park's Mill Valley Kitchen, will be renovating the space and opening Marin.

Marin, named for Marin County, will expand on the philosophy of Mill Valley Kitchen, with its focus on Northern California cuisine. The dishes created by chef Michael Rakun will emphasize  light, sustainable foods. This won't be Rakun's first experience with feeding hotel guests; his background includes a stint at the St. Paul Hotel.

The two-floor dining area and lounge are scheduled for a major renovation to be done by Shea Inc. (whose most recent restaurant design work can be seen at nearby Union).

Ralph Burnet, Le Méridien general partner, is a fan of Mill Valley Kitchen and believes the healthy, local, and sustainable food will draw both travelers staying at the hotel and downtown crowds.

Looks for Marin to open sometime this summer.
