As the summer is finally starting to get underway, Madden's Resort in Gull Lake is getting ready for their annual Food & Wine Experience, and this year it's going to be a doozy. The resort will play host to not only a local roster of culinary heroes, but they'll also be bringing in a variety of big name players from across the country.

The annual event kicks off on Thursday, August 22 with a benefit dinner for Kids Against Hunger and will continue on through the weekend offering a variety of events and tastings in which event goers will be able to interact directly with the panel of guest chefs, knowledgeable wine folk and various other food industry professionals.

So, who exactly can you expect to see at the Food & Wine Experience this year? The laundry list of local talent will include Sea Change's Jamie Malone who was recently named one of Food & Wine Magazine's "Best New Chefs of 2013" and multiple James Beard Award nominee Doug Flicker of Minneapolis' Piccolo and Sandcastle.

Coming back to Minneapolis after expatriating to Nashville to open up their critically acclaimed restaurant Catbird Seat will be Chefs Erik Anderson and Josh Habiger whose combined experience has had them working at some of the best, most exclusive restaurants in the world. Other feature guests will include James Beard Award Semi-finalists Andrew Ticer and Michael Hudman of Memphis's Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen and Hog & Hominy.

On the sweet side of the kitchen we'll see Sea Change's creative pastry chef Niki Francioli as well as 2006 James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Johnny luzzini. Local chocolatier Brian "B.T." McElrath will also be on hand for the festivities.

The kick off Kids Against Hunger benefit dinner will feature a lavish seven course dinner prepared by the squadron of local and national talent and will be paired with wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle Estates. The price tag on this event is fairly hefty coming in at between $200-$300 per ticket and that's just for the dinner. The rest of the event chimes in at $185.50 per person, per night, but this definitely stands to be one of the more exciting culinary events around and probably worth the price tag for a filling late summer vacation.
