Local chef showdown at TPT's Whisk Factor

On Friday, June 28, four local chefs will compete in this culinary competition for the tastiest dish. The contest is the premier event of TPT's Now Serving series, which aims to connect the Twin Cities with locally-grown foods.
Justin Madel, Manager of Donor Events at TPT, says "a big part of new series is to promote local cooks and farms and artisans. We're really excited for that."
Whisk Factor will pit these cooks against the each other in creating a delicious dish made from natural ingredients provided by local outreach organization Youth Farms. Chefs will have just one day to plan a meal after learning the identities of Youth Farms' secret ingredients. Contestants will be judged on the taste, appearance, and originality of their dish.
The audience will watch all the chopping and and grilling action from their studio seats. Live cooking and friendly rivalry is expected to make for quite a show.
The winning cook will be awarded a $1000 check and one month of on-air promotions for their respective restaurant.
Event host, Emmy-winning Jason DeRusha of WCCO news, and judges will pepper contestants with interview questions and taste-tests, while audience members enjoy miniature samples of the competing dishes.
The four chefs from favorite neighborhood eateries include Ryan Lund of Lucia's Restaurant, Tyler Shipton of Borough Minneapolis, Sarah Master of Barbette Restaurant, and Alex Roberts ofRestaurant Alma and Brasa Rotisserie competing for the title.
"I think it will be great to showcase all these local chefs," says Madel.
The competition will be held at TPT's Studio A in St. Paul at 7 p.m. This live event will not be televised, so the $40 tickets ($30 for TPT members) are sure to be in high demand. Reserved tickets are available online.
