Along with useful advice and products to keep our communities greener and more sustainable, the Living Green Expo, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 to 5 at the State Fair Grounds, will have a heavy food focus. Cooking demonstrations using locally grown produce, pork, poultry, and grass-fed beef will happen both days.
Featured chefs include:
~Marshall Paulsen of Birchwood Cafe/Bayport Cookery, who will make Wild Acres turkey burgers with Surly mustard and tart cherry ketchup (!) ~Jim Kyndberg, showing us how to make a Locovore's BBQ, which he calls "crazy-good food" ~Fabulous Catering's Dawn Drouillard, who will make local Hook's seven-year aged cheddar queso using Hope Creamery cream, along with La Perla fresh fried corn chips and house-pickled jalapeno. (Fabulous Catering will also be serving its amazing creations at Powderhorn Park on Sunday from 11 to 6 at the May Day Parade, using compostable plates and utensils.) There will be food booths galore, again with a focus on local ingredients including area favorites: the Chef Shack, Galactic Pizza, Locovores BBQ (serving an incredible-sounding Indian fry bread filled with smoked pulled pork,) West Indies Soul Food, and Island Noodles.
