Come 2014, Brit's Pub
may have some stiff competition for the busiest rooftop patio on Nicollet Mall. A new Arizona-based chain restaurant called Ling & Louie's is moving in across from Target Corp. headquarters, reports the Mpls/St.Paul Business Journal,
with plans to add a top-level dining deck after the new year.
Here are more details on the pan-Asian cuisine, floor plans, and an idea of when it plans to open.
Ling & Louie's concept sounds like a cross between Big Bowl and Chili's, with everything from burgers and sushi to nachos and tempura on its brightly colored menu. Their latest acquisition on the same block as Barrio
and the Local
is a sizable amount of space: 6,500 square feet on the main level with additional levels to accommodate different dining crowds, a plan that has worked to a degree
for other downtown joints like Union.
Ling and Louie's claims it's "not for boring people," but most of the store's facades look identical to any old Granite City, and the menu, chock full of stuff that sizzles and something called "Evil Jungle Princess Beef," sounds more like it would be at home at the Mall of America than on Nicollet Mall. Still, the promise of a rooftop has its own lure, and there isn't much else in the way of American-Asian fusion food right in this nook of downtown.
As they continue to expand, something is certainly working for the seven other locations of the Ling & Louie's chain, which is run by the same team behind Rojo Mexican Grill
. Speaking of Rojo, sources confirm
it is planning to open a second Minnesota store at Southdale Center in a matter of months.
The new outpost of Ling & Louie's is set to open around Thanksgiving of this year.
