If there's one thing that is consistent about working at City Pages, it's that there is always a nautical-themed restaurant (in decor-only) in the basement of our building. Over the years, JJ's Dry Dock has served us grilled cheese, salads, and cookies, as well as cocktails and beer. They will close this evening, but will reopen April 1 with a newly-remodeled space and menu.
Today, they thank their loyal customers with drink specials that will last until the supplies run out.
The party runs from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and features $2 beers (draft and bottle) and $3 mixed drinks. The appetizers will be free. I just wandered down there a moment ago and they also have some tasty cookies for $1.
After JJ's closes, the restaurant will reopen under the same management as Darby O'Ragen's. The remodel will be extensive; several walls will be knocked down to create about twice as much space. The menu will also be expanded to include more Cajun-style treats, a soda fountain, and a pizza station. There will also be house-smoked meats and other items added as well. The space will reopen for dining April 12.
JJ's is located in the basement of the Designers' Guild Building at 401 North Third Street in Minneapolis.
