Jim Beam's great grandson serves new whiskey at Prohibition's Men of Distinction
Prohibition at the W Minneapolis hosts its Men of Distinction evening on Thursday, April 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., bringing Jim Beam's great grandson to the bar. He'll serve up his company's latest bourbon whiskey--Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve. In addition to the libations, this man-themed party also promises small plates created by chef Josh Hill and cigars in the backroom.
Complimentary tastes of the nine-year aged, small batch elixir highlight the night as guests get a chance to chat with Frederic Booker Noe III about the vicissitudes of the whiskey biz. Come prepared with any and all related questions--Noe is not just a brand ambassador but a master distiller who knows the ropes from the ground up. His late father had him start in the company as a night shift bottling line supervisor to be sure that his son was truly committed to creating the booze.
This special Knob Creek is 120 proof with wood and vanilla notes, and it should pair well with chef Hill's apps (also gratis), which include Fischer Farms pigs in a blanket, truffled deviled eggs, and more. Looking to really butch it out? Head to the back room and allow skilled Dominican hand roller Maria Caram to prep a cigar for you.
The Men of Distinction fête is a reprise of last's year's version of the event. The occasion is certainly geared toward male drinkers, but according to Molli O'Rourke, director of sales and marketing for Parasole at the W, women are more than welcome to enjoy the macho milieu. Or, if it's too much, they can slip downstairs for the W's monthly Martinis and Manicures, which happens at the same time in the Lounge.
