Last weekend saw numerous Oktoberfest celebrations around town, but with that out-of-season 80-degree sunshine, it was a bit more Fourth of July in spirit. This week the temperatures have dropped and the sky is a bit more ominous -- and it's time to celebrate Oktoberfest again.
Running Friday and Saturday this weekend is Twin Cities Oktoberfest, a two-day celebration of Bavarian culture at the State Fairgrounds.
Friday night Roseville is hosting its first ever beer festival, Tapped & Uncorked/Pour for Parks, a craft beer and wine tasting sponsored by Friends of Roseville Parks. Indeed, Bent, Lucid, and Cannon River Winery are among the many companies pouring samples. In St. Louis Park, the Four Firkins will host Joe Pond, owner of Olvalde Farm and Brewing Company.
GetKnit is sponsoring a Fall Foliage tour that involves boat, train, and bus tours and a stop at Castle Danger Brewing in Two Harbors on Saturday.
Saturday night is Schwandtoberfest, named after the family behind Bauhaus Brew Labs'. This ticketed event comes with a keepsake stein and beer tickets. Pretzels and bratwurst will also be available at the German-themed brewery in Northeast Minneapolis.
On Sunday is the annual Twin Cities Marathon, of which Summit is a key sponsor. The brewery will be offering a free beer at the finish line for runners.
Also on Sunday, Bryant-Lake Bowl is featuring a special "Treasure Chest Brunch" spotlighting two beers from Green Flash Brewing of California.
Monday at noon, Fulton is releasing its Wet Hop Ale at Muddy Waters. The brewery will also have Ringer, War and Peace, and Libertine on tap.
LynLake Brewery, which had previously announced an October 9 opening, is looking to push that date back at least one week as it continues to rev up production.
As for new beers on the shelves (and taps), Fulton has finally put the Ringer into stores, courtesy of its new bottling line. Surlyfest is now on local shelves as well, and Boom Island is preparing to release its seasonal Thoprock Wet on Monday, October. 6. In out of state beers, Colorado's New Belgium unveiled a new Lips of Faith series beer, a salted Belgian chocolate stout.
In weekend food trucks, Sandy's Grill will be at Surly on Saturday and Moondogs will be parked outside on Sunday. Cajun 2 Geaux (Friday) and Tiki Tim's (Saturday) will be at Summit, and Motley Crew's (Friday), Simply Steve's (Saturday), and Café Racer (Sunday) will be at 612Brew. Send your story tips to Hot Dish.
