Herkimer, Lift Bridge, and Surly Doomtree Top Weekend Beer Events


Christmas isn't just about church and Santa and caroling, it's about winter warmer drinks, bold flavors, and, well, caroling.

This weekend, get into the spirit with the release of Lift Bridge's Biscotti beer, a malt-driven beer that replicates the Christmas experience of Italian biscotti cookies with honey, vanilla, anise, and other spices. The event will be made complete with an ugly sweater contest.

Herkimer Pub & Brewery is celebrating 15 years this Saturday with a party of its own and $3 beers all day. The brewery has started a series of Belgian brews including pale ales, blonds, a golden strong, and a dubbel.

Also on Saturday, Bent Brewstillery is hosting its Bad Santa Bash and Toys for Tots Drive.

Surly will release its Doomtree beer this weekend, solely at Turf Club on Saturday, followed by Muddy Waters, the Depot Tavern, Red Stag, Billy's on Grand, Pizza Luce (St. Paul), and Grumpy's Roseville on Sunday.


On Tuesday, Summit is featured in a food and beer pairing at Bistro La Roux in Circle Pines, pairing Creole/Cajun dishes with Summit favorites like Winter Ale, 3x Mild Ale, and Saga IPA. On Wednesday, the Four Firkins Oakdale will host a ticketed educational tasting with cicerone Shaun Kopp. Thursday the Holiday Beertique shop/eat/drink event comes to Lift Bridge in Stillwater.

Meanwhile, in new beers on local shelves, we have Schell's Fresh Hop Pils, Indeed's Old Friend, Steel Toe's Wee Heavy, and 3rd Street Brewhouse's Sugar Shack. Bent Paddle's barrel-aged double black and, from Cleveland's Great Lakes Brewing, Conway's Irish Ale are set to release soon.

As for food trucks, Burning Brothers will host Moondog Fancy Meats on Friday; Potter's Pasties (Friday) and Kabomlette (Saturday) will be at Northgate Brewing; and the Curious Goat is serving at Sociable Cider Werks, which recently celebrated its first anniversary.
