After a three year break, Hard Rock Cafe is returning to Minnesota -- and this time it's headed for the Mall of America.
The Orlando-based franchise recently posted listings on its corporate website for general manager, restaurant operations manager, kitchen manager, and sales manager positions at the Mall of America location set to open in Summer 2014. Though its exact location within the Mall of America has yet to be revealed, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported that, "A source said it will wrap around part of the the mall's Nickelodeon Universe amusement park."
Hard Rock Cafe's last Minnesota location was in Minneapolis' Block E, which was also home to Applebee's, GameStop, Hooters, and Borders before the retail space was bought by Alatus, who initially planned to build a casino in the space. When Hard Rock's Block E location finally closed in September, 2011, the company's PR rep told that Star Tribune that, "We have run a successful business in Minneapolis, but the current site has created challenges that prevent us from continuing to operate at this location."
Plans for the $200 million casino were never actualized. This week, it was announced that Block E's owners partnered with the Mayo Clinic and the Minnesota Timberwolves to transform the space into a sports medicine clinic and practice facility for the Timberwolves and Lynx.
