Glam Doll Donuts will open a second location in northeast Minneapolis

itemprop

Noted for its delicious donuts and retro vibe, Glam Doll Donuts has been a Minneapolis favorite since the moment its hot pink doors swung open in 2013.

Now, the business is taking its treats to northeast Minneapolis, where a new space (in the old Totino’s building) promises more inventive menu items. Does that mean the store plans to add a variety of alcoholic beverages to the already extensive drink list? You bet it does. Does that mean donuts created in order to pair perfectly with local beers? Uh huh, honey.

The brunch menu, introduced at the original spot earlier this year, will also be expanded in the new location. Current breakfast staples like egg sandwiches and fried chicken and waffle donuts will pair perfectly with a mid-morning mimosa and whatever other doughy mysteries are to be added.

Co-owners Arwyn Birch and Teresa Fox have been crowned as Twin Cities donut queens, earning the shop awards like Best Donuts in the City Pages Best of the Twin Cities issue. They’ve also been named one of the “Tastiest Donut Shops” in USA Today, and a “must-eat” by the Wall Street Journal.

The duo plan to keep “building this donut kingdom” says Fox. Part of that will be the complete overhaul of their brand new commercial space in the Red 20 apartments near 6th and Central Avenue.

“We are building everything from scratch... We’re working with our amazing designer who helped us with this [current location] and good friend Alicia [Danzig] at LULU, and we’re having custom-made tiles which we’re getting screen printed by our friends at Burlesque of North America.”

The entire space is “going to be a more grand version” of their original shop and “maybe a little more Alice in Wonderland.”

“Every moment you turn around and there [will be] a new place you want to Instagram yourself. We are always trying to create these little moments so you have to keep coming in,” says Fox.

Neighbors will include Lu’s Sandwiches as well as the Bad Waitress. The Eat Street stalwart is set to open its second shop around the same time as Glam Doll.

This area of Northeast is on the rise, with the Herbivorous Butcher, Stem Wine Bar & Eatery, and Spitz already in business and PinKU set to open next month.

The newest Glam Doll location hopes to feed the donut-craving masses starting in December.
