Girl Scouts announce new cookie
As the holiday season winds down and Americans begin to recover from their self-induced sugar comas brought on by binges of fruitcake, gingerbread, and--in Minnesota, at least--lefse and rosettes, how is a foodie with a sweet tooth expected to survive until the stores begin stocking pastel-colored M&Ms and Cadbury Creme Eggs?
Why, with Girl Scout Cookies, of course!
The Girl Scouts of America are celebrating their 100th year by adding a brand-new cookie to its roster of much-beloved sweet treats.
So what do America's favorite pint-sized purveyors of confectionery crack have on tap for us this year?
As if the current lineup of Tagalongs, Thin Mints, and Samoas wasn't enough to satisfy our cookie cravings, the Girl Scouts have announced a new recipe.
Introducing Savannah Smiles.

The website for the Girl Scouts' current bakery, Little Brownie Bakers, describes the cookies as such:
This lemon wedge cookie is cool and crisp, with just the right number of lemon chips to deliver tiny bursts of flavor.
Now, "lemon chips" are not something one encounters everyday. We here at the Hot Dish are imagining neon-yellow flecks of some amalgamation of shortening and corn syrup solids.
There's also something slightly disappointing about celebrating a milestone like 100 years in operation with such an uninspired flavor. Seriously? Lemon?!
Nobody lists lemon as their favorite flavor. Lemon is a flavor used to enhance other flavors, like in iced tea and Lemon Drops. Whenever we find ourselves at a bakery late in the afternoon, after the day's baked goods have been picked over by previous customers, there are inevitably still lemon-flavored treats in abundance. Come on, girls! You can do better than this.
However, we guess they needed something to fill the gap in the roster-- especially since the GSUSA was forced to recall Lemon Chalet Creme cookies in 2010.
Look for the new Savannah Smiles cookies when the Girl Scouts begin their sales starting February 11.
