Ghost Wing Challenge Finals at Girvan Grille seeks competitors!
Think you're hot stuff? Then consider putting your spice tolerance to the test by competing in this year's Ghost Wing Challenge finals at Girvan Grille in Brooklyn Park on November 7th at 3:30.
These wings, made with the world's hottest chili pepper, aka the "ghost pepper," are capable of hollowing out the inside of your mouth like a blowtorch would. City Pages hit up Girvan and sampled the things and subsequently named them the Twin Cities' Best Wings last year.
The Finals are open to any past Wall of Flame winners (meaning you came in to Girvan and passed the Ghost Wing Challenge of eating 10 wings in 15 minutes with no other food or drink) and MN State Fair Challengers (similar thing--contestants must bring their certificates to enter).
Contestants should register for the Finals in advance by calling 763‐315‐8535, but you can still try to qualify before November 7 by coming into Girvan during it's regular hours of operation and taking the Ghost Wings Challenge.
According to Girvan, the Ghost Wings are sauced with a house blend of habaneras, Asian chili paste, and Bhut Jolokia, or the ghost chili. Girvan Chef Jim Malinowski, mastermind of the Ghost Wings, warns about the physical repercussions of taking the challenge. "There is no doubt Ghost Wings are hot, they burn twice."
For those who don't want to compete, but just enjoy some non weapons-grade wings, Girvan Grille offers a mellower version called Dragon Wings.
