George & the Dragon to open at 50th and Bryant

Now that the damage from the fire that ravaged the beloved Blackbird and Heidi's restaurants has been cleaned up, a new eatery has announced it is ready to move in. The space at 50th and Bryant in southwest Minneapolis will soon be home to a pub called George and the Dragon, Minnesota Monthly reports.

The owner of the new restaurant is Fred Navarro, an industry vet who until now was responsible for running the Lettuce Entertain You-owned restaurants Tucci Bennuch and Twin City Grill at the Mall of America. Navarro plans to serve simple, locally sourced (including the beer) pub fare like macaroni and cheese, burgers, fried chicken, and Sunday suppers.

According to the interim website, the restaurant will be fueled by a very egalitarian philosophy: "Everyone deserves great food." Navarro expects George & the Dragon to open its doors in March.
