Gay sports bar to replace Uptown Salsa a la Salsa

Here we go again with the next round of restaurant musical chairs in Uptown. The latest installment has Salsa a la Salsa, purveyor of hit-or-miss Mexican food and inexpensive happy hour margaritas, being replaced by a gay sports bar; the change will happen sometime this summer.

The space, at 2841 Hennepin Ave., enjoyed a long run as an Old Chicago Pizza (and going way back, as a Rocky Rococo). In 2014, Kaskaid Hospitality, the group behind the Crave empire, opened the Southern-themed Boneyard — which closed after just nine months. They then partnered with Lorenzo Ariza to open an Uptown outpost of his successful Eat Street restaurant, Salsa a la Salsa, in January 2015. Now it’s adios Salsa a la Salsa, hola Game Sports Bar Minneapolis.

The sports bar is owned by a restaurant group led by industry veteran Mike LaGuire. He most recently worked for Kaskaid at Union restaurant in downtown Minneapolis. Game Sports Bar Minneapolis will be the sole gay bar in Uptown, an area that seems like a good fit for this newcomer.
