Gastro Non Grata: save these dates

Our favorite local food-meets-music scene event sponsor Gastro Non Grata has big plans for May, so save these dates: Gastro invites itself to Art-A-Whirl on May 17th They'll be roasting pigs and stuffing sausage with the crews from FLAK Radio and the Modern Cafe, in the Modern's parking lot starting at 11 a.m.

Gastro Non Grata 9 at the Triple Rock Social Club on May 24 Chef Heather Heartman of Spoonriver/Cafe Brenda's fare will be paired with brews from Rush River and chocolate from Rogue.

Here's what else the Gastro guys had to say:

Gastro Non Grata is gearing up for spring with two fantastic events bringing together the best local food, talent-laden local bands and copious amounts of brew for your over-indulgence. This May we bring the pain two-weekends in a row. First order is up in the North East neighborhood, followed by our usual watering hole the Triple Rock Social Club.

Gastro invites itself to Art-A-Whirl

On Sunday, May 17th Gastro Non Grata will be hanging out along with FLAK Radio in the Modern Cafe parking lot starting at 11 a.m. To perk up your senses the chefs at the Modern are gonna roast some pigs and stuff some fresh country sausage. Emily's Lebanese Deli is sweetening the deal with a few pans of the best baklava on the block.

Two Brothers Brewing from the Chicagoland area will be on hand to tell their story and sample beer with the crowd. St. Paul wine distributor, Bourget Imports will also be on hand to sample some wine with pig flesh..

That's all going to taste great, but don't forget about the fine local music throughout the day. Les Ourses symphonic stylings will start things off and Modern Café's own That's What You Get will get the crowd moving. They'll be followed by the brooding noise of Hunting Club. To put a rock cherry on the top of this musical sundae, hard chargin' Private Dancer and free-wheeling Chooglin' will see if they can't muster up a noise complaint or two before the sun sets.

This is a free event, samples will be provided throughout the day but all beer, wine and food will be also be available for sale in large portions.

Gastro Non Grata 9 at the Triple Rock Social Club

Sunday, May 24th from 6-9 p.m. Gastro Non Grata will be layin' it down at the Triple Rock Social Club. $3 cover at the door or a food donation or both.

We're happy to have Chef Heather Heartman on board for this one. Her dishes have graced the tables of both Spoonriver and its sister restaurant, Cafe Brenda. Heather will start things off with a mushroom patè followed by Vietnemese grilled pork salad.

Rush River Brewing from River Falls Wisconsin will be on hand sampling beers, talking about their beers and pairing them with Heather's food.

Our newest addition will be members of Northern Brewer family hanging around the back with a big pot of boiling wort. That's right, our first homebrew. We plan on brewing a batch at each show and sampling it at the following Gastro Non Grata.

Music will begin with Mr. Fly, resident singer/songwriter of Spoonriver, followed by the tonal sincerity of Dreamland Faces, the yearning rock of the Evening Rig, Hair raising noise from His Mischief and the complete musical onslaught of Birthday Suits.

Colin Gasko of Rogue Chocolatier will be finishing the night bittersweetly with bits of bean-to-bar heaven and you can count on the Dead Meat Door Prize by Clancey's Butcher Shop to be interesting.
