Franklin Street Bakery's bread a perfect sandwich starter

The lovely folks at the Franklin Street Bakery, a longtime staple in the City of Lakes, have recently taken their talents to Edina (next to the Convention Grill), and the people there couldn't be any luckier. The Edina location is as fresh out of the oven as one of their flaky croissants, but there's no need for seasoning here--this place is ready to roll right out of the gate, and it all starts with their tasty bread.

You'll notice that there isn't an overwhelming selection of goods at their newest outpost, but those in the neighborhood will be happy to see that they are serving both hot and cold sandwiches along with simple salads and several freshly baked treats for lunch. Their grilled Siebenhaler sandwich, though tricky to pronounce, is a simplistic winner for a quick and easy lunch. In fact, you can count the number of ingredients on one hand, which helps to keep the flavors focused and precise. Sharp cheddar brings a creamy layer of intrigue while salty ham provides a light saltiness and substance. The caramelized red onions combine with the tang of the excellent marble rye bread to provide a hearty twist like you would expect to find in a great patty melt or Russian. Wondering why there isn't any mustard on this bad boy? We are too.

Sandwich Rating: Tasty. There's nothing too overt on this sandwich--just good ingredients that only complement each other, organized between two pieces of nicely toasted marble rye.
