One week's flavor

One week's flavor

Its weekly flavors may change, but the popularity of this summer fave cannot be denied. The Hot Dish wanted to be sure you knew where to pick up one of these refreshing, eco-friendly treats.

Foxy Falafel's Erica Strait made a culinary splash last year with her namesake pitas, platters, and kombucha--not to mention her pedal-powered smoothies, which bring green to a drink that usually has a different hue. We ventured out to Kingfield Market to see the blender whir, as it made a combination of oranges and farm-fresh Tiny Planet strawberries. Flavors change frequently and have been known to include blueberries, ginger, bananas, and more.

The blender is neatly attached to an old bike, painted green and affixed to a yellow stand, to keep it from moving. You can choose to blend your own smoothie (we hear you may save yourself some change that way), have a Foxy worker do the pedaling for you, or get a stranger to do your bidding. You can even rent the contraption out for private events, separately from the entire stand.

However you come upon the smoothie, its texture remains fairly chunky, which we heartily approve of, and you get a good-sized portion of liquid that remains true to the fruits. It's the perfect beverage to get when you arrive at the market, to sip at as you peruse the vendors. You can choose your week's purchases with a clear conscience and a sated, healthy, belly.
