Forest Lake man breaks into ex-wife's home, steals cheese
Some thieves target diamonds. Others favor expensive paintings. And then there's Leonard Keith Houle of Forest Lake, who broke into his ex-wife's home and went straight for the cheese -- literally. The intoxicated 56-year-old was caught stealing a block of Kraft cheese from his ex-wife's refrigerator in the early hours of the morning on March 28, according to a criminal complaint.
Houle broke in through the rear of the house and was found digging through his ex-wife's refrigerator. Her daughter pushed Houle out of the house and the police were contacted around 12:05 a.m., the report says.
Lino Lakes police responded to the initial call and found Houle hiding in a neighbor's garage with a block of Kraft cheese in his arms. The report says Houle had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.
"Yeah, he stole cheese. Broke in, stole cheese, went to somebody else's house and hid and we arrested him. The usual," Lino Lakes Police Captain Kelly McCarthy says. Houle's motive? "He was hungry."
After being taken into custody, Houle admitted to drinking and driving and took a breathalyzer test, which showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.11. The three charges against him include first-degree burglary and two DWI counts.
