Best dishes countdown #72: Housemade sausages at Ox Cart Ale House

Get your sausage from a guy who bothers to make them himself.

Andy Lilja is a part-time chef, part-time butcher who's quietly churning out quality pub fare at Lowertown newcomer Ox Cart Ale House. Anyone can leave burgers and dogs to some unknown entity, toss them on a bun and pile them high with stuff, calling it good. But that doesn't make them eye-wideningly elegant to eat or impeccably delicious as haute cuisine. These sausages, tucked lovingly in one of those toasty buns that's more butter than bread, come garnished with inventive takes on classics (Coney Island), or altogether novel stuff that somehow works magically, like one with roasted tomato, cherry chutney, and garlic chips.
