Best dishes countdown #56: Cocktail Flight at Tongue in Cheek

So pretty. Tasty, too, with six flavor profiles represented: umami, sweet, salty, spicy, bitter, and sour.

So pretty. Tasty, too, with six flavor profiles represented: umami, sweet, salty, spicy, bitter, and sour.

The cocktail list at Tongue in Cheek is long and enticing, with drinks cleverly divided into six flavor profiles: umami, sweet, salty, spicy, bitter, and sour. Peruse options like the Why Not Minot? with white whiskey, St. Elder, lime, and agave, or the Mother of Dragons with jalapeno-infused Jim Beam, Mathilde Peche, and passion fruit. You'll quickly find it can be hard to make up your mind.

Luckily, you don’t have to. The restaurant’s “cock(tail) teasers” let you sample mini versions of six drinks, one from each of the flavor categories.

This brilliant idea means you can enjoy a good portion of the drink list and still drive home. The entire flight is the equivalent of one-and-a-half to two regular size cocktails. And while the teasers are a good deal at the regular price of $18, they’re an awesome deal at happy hour (4 p.m.–7 p.m. every day) when flights are just $12.
