Rare is the Minnesota BBQ technician who can stand up and look any master of smoke, anywhere, in the eye. The people of Q Fanatic are those technicians. They have a way with ribs, leaving them rosy with a telltale red smoke ring. Their brisket is always the spot-on consistency that holds its shape yet is never dry. And their pulled pork sings with hickory smoke, a sauce that's more vinegar than sugar, and a scoop of fresh coleslaw.
But unless you're a regular visitor to Champlin (and you should be — the best Q is always worth the drive) you may still be unaware of their charms. No more, denizens of Minneapolis. You're about to get your own Q Fanatic outpost.
As of last Friday (March 18), the owners of Q Fanatic were declaring their Nicollet Avenue location "hopefully open today." For now, they'll only be selling sandwiches (with free chips) until they can get staff trained up properly on the full menu.
Just as it's worth the drive, the best Q is worth the wait.
