An evening of the surreal: eating Famous Dave's BBQ at Famous Dave Anderson's house while watching Famous Dave compete in a food challenge on a giant flat screen TV. The show is the Food Network barbecue competition Best in Smoke, where Anderson and Charlie Torgerson are competing for the title and a total of $50,000.

Sunday evening Anderson hosted a viewing party for family, friends, and local press.

The red carpet was rolled out and the grills were ablaze.  Food included the usual BBQ in addition to some treats from the show.  The pork tenderloin on crostini drizzled with blackberry barbecue sauce was tenderly smokey with just a touch of lusty sweetness.

The show has been tense viewing so far with the Famous Dave's team nearly losing in the first episode when pitted against a mac and cheese dish and judged by a hoard of 11-year-olds.  Not an easy contest. He was also attempting to compete on a fractured ankle and damaged knee, having fallen off a ladder while fixing his smoker prior to the competition.

He's been in both the top and the bottom of the judges' scores throughout the competition but is hanging in there for another week.

Best in Smoke airs Sundays at 8 p.m. locally on the Food Network.
