Summer is typically the busiest time of year for most Minnesotans. Errands pile up, events fill the calendar and there's always horrible lake traffic. It seems that the temperature and free time enjoy an inverse relationship here in the Northland, which is why I appreciate eateries like Lucias's To Go and their ability to deliver a solid meal, even on the fly.
Lucia's wine bar has been a favorite spot of mine for quite some time and despite the limited menu, I've always found some great items there. For instance, I just tried to re-create a roasted peach, mozzarella, arugula and honey sandwich I sampled there a few weeks ago (the real deal was worlds better). I wish I always had time to enjoy a meal on the patio at Lucia's, but unfortunately, life gets hectic and it's really easy to have your stomach take a back seat to other priorities.
Thankfully Lucia's To Go concept is located right next door to their other eateries and all the hustle and bustle of Uptown. All it takes is a quick five minute break to grab something satisfying and you'll be on your way - your much happier and less stressed way.
This past weekend I ran in to grab something quick and landed on the roasted turkey sandwich with chive mayo and dijon mustard on flax millet bread - doesn't sound like setteling to me. The sandwich is piled high with flavorful shaved turkey that was a bit dry (likely from the thiness of the cut). Thankfully there was a creamy and fragrant mayonaise spiked with fresh chives and mixed with tangy mustard to supply some excitment and moisture - a perfect weapon to reinvigorate a leftover Thanksgiving sandwich. The flax millet bread was perfectly soft, and the abundance of rich grains offered substance and a good grip on the other ingredients. A few sliced tomatoes and some crisp lettuce freshened things up, but at the end of the day it was the sauce that made the sandwich.
Sandwich Rating: Tasty. It's nice to have a place you can count on to satisfy your cravings and get you back on the road with a full tank filled with tasty fuel. I could continue to say great things about this big beauty, but I gotta run!
