Let's just call this the summer of free tacos.
Seafood brand Sea Cuisine and celebrity chef Jamie Malone of Minneapolis's very own Sea Change are partnering up to bring the Twin Cities a fish taco to be reckoned with on the 2014 Taco Bar Tour.
Until the end of September, Sea Cuisine will be stopping in five cities across the nation, pairing up with an in-town chef and creating exclusive fish taco recipes for each location. So what can you expect from chef Malone? And where can you get that free taco?
The Taco Bar Tour will be hitting Lake Calhoun on Sunday, July 20 from 10 a.m. (it's never too early for tacos) to 4 p.m, the Nicollet Farmers Market on Thursday, July 24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as a variety of other area events.
Chef Jamie Malone has perfected her recipe: She layers a bed of chipotle mayo under tortilla crusted tilapia, cabbage, and a cucumber, orange, and lime juice pico, and folds it all neatly within a corn tortilla.
"The fish already has so much flavor, I like to use fresh ingredients with it," Malone says, working to bust the Minnesota myth that fish tastes, well, fishy.
Malone and Sea Cuisine intend to show Minnesotans how easy fish is for at-home cooking, and are even creating simple recipes consumers can make themselves. Sea Cuisine will be available to answer any questions, whether about their sustainability initiative or how to perfectly warm up a tortilla (pro tip: Malone swears by microwaving them for 30 seconds).
