To celebrate it's new location, El Burrito Mercado will hold a public face-stuffing of meat, rice, beans, and tortillas on Sunday.
If you missed the Diamond Dog-eating contest at the Depot but still want your chance at belly-busting, Man vs. Food-style glory, you're in luck. As part of the festivities for the grand opening of its new location at Midtown Global Market, El Burrito Mercado is hosting a burrito-eating contest this Sunday, August 5.
Here are the details on when to show up and how much you have a shot at winning:
To enter the contest, you must message your name to the El Burrito Mercado Facebook page
before Sunday. The grande-burrito-eating contest starts at 1 p.m, and for the less ambitious (or more reasonable), the chiquito-burrito-eating contest starts at 2 p.m.
The prize for the first place adult winner is $100 cash and an El Burrito Mercado Grande Gift Basket. Second place wins $50 cash and a gift certificate to the restaurant in case you didn't get your fill. Kids aged 10 to 12 can enter the chiquito-eating contest, and the first-place winner in that category gets $25 in cash and a piñata filled with candy. The second-place kid gets $10 and a goodie basket.
After the contest, stay for live music, face painting, and even more food. The grand opening event runs from noon to 3 p.m.
