The Macho Camacho $9 Barrio 925 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis 612.333.9953
Recently, Rachel and I discussed tequila's bad reputation: http://www.citypages.com/2008-11-12/restaurants/barrio-treats-tequila-with-wine-style-reverence/ --visions of belly shots and other shenanigans came to our minds. However, the crafty drinkmasters at Barrio deserve a second mention for creating such a dyno-mite drink menu-- tequila finally gets a chance to shine in all its agave glory.
As the Holidazzle parade traveled by, I sat in this room filled with beautiful people and make-out red walls-- surrounded by artwork and candelabras looking as if they were borrowed from Frieda Kahlo's house.
My friends and I all ordered different drinks--not a clunker in the bunch. I loved the Macho Camacho: a blood orange margarita with a splash of cava and muddled pepper. It was sweet, spicy and delicious--a perfect accompaniment to Barrio's exceptional menu. Welcome to the dawning of a new day, tequila. I am so glad we are friends again.
