As one of the few remaining vintage drive-in restaurants in the area, the Dari-ette is a beloved St. Paul institution, serving classic drive-in burgers and fries as well as divine Italian dishes. The Dari-ette was also once featured on the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (sharing an episode with another iconic Twin Cities restaurant, Al's Breakfast). This Saturday, the Dari-ette celebrates its milestone 60th anniversary, making them most worthy of a Drink of the Week salute.[jump]
A Dari-ette malt is like tasting a little slice of heaven, so rich and creamy, with the ideal thick texture and richness of malt. Our favorite flavor to sip in the sanctity of the car is the chocolate banana malt: The ice cream blended to perfection with nicely sized, ultra-fresh bites of banana, the smooth chocolate ice cream--this is a dreamy summer treat, especially during these sultry days. One of our favorite nights is a stop at the Dari-ette for burgers to go, then a trip to the drive-in movies at Vali Hi for a summer car spectacular.
Help the Dari-ette celebrate its 60th anniversary tomorrow with live music, food specials, and all-around good times.
