A trip out to the so-called West End made the Hot Dish a bit peckish. Thank goodness Cooper Pub & Restaurant boasts a long and strong happy hour. We decided to find out just how good the deals were in case we come back to take in a movie or shop. Our verdict follows...
Venue: Cooper's decor is a New Roman amalgam of paintings, wrought iron, and the charming pair of statues below, and yet the place is still a pub at heart. Sixteen beers are on tap, along with a full selection of Irish whiskeys, as is the case in any good Kieran Folliard bar. Cooper's has a variety of eats, and the best of the bunch fall squarely in the bar food milieu. The staff was very attentive and friendly.
Looks like a hotel, but it's a pub.
Verdict: The happy hour(s) at this St. Louis Park bar are daily, extensive, and hit on the reasons you've dragged yourself out to a pub. Guinness, Smithwick's, Boddingtons, Finnegans Irish Amber, and Jameson are all discounted--and isn't that what you came for? The food feels almost like an added bonus, with plenty to choose from for both veg-heads and meat lovers. Plus, we're a sucker for over-the-top environments, and the designers of Cooper had us at the peacock feathers at the entrance.
