Comfort Food Friday: Chicken pot pie
This week we found a chicken pot pie that hit the spot, filling our comfort food need and then some. Making the thirty minute trek to Jake O'Connor's Public Housein Excelsior for this masterful pot pie was entirely worth it. In the area, the pub is known for its staple Irish dishes, beer selection, and authentic, rustic décor.

Be warned, the classic chicken potpie at Jake O'Connor's is huge. It can easily make for two full meals. Soft, flaky crust holds together chunks of chicken breast (no skimping on the main ingredient here), peas, carrots, potatoes, and pearl onions, all in a creamy white sauce.
Much of indulging in a comfort food comes from indulging in a comfortable environment. Really, who wants to sit in a drafty restaurant on a rock-hard booth to eat their warm treat on a cold winter night? Jake O'Connor's has the cozy, relaxed atmosphere with dark, decorative wood, stained glass, and private booths to make the food that much more enjoyable.
Pot pie not your thing? Don't fret -- this pub has plenty of other comfort foods, such as corned beef and cabbage and shepherd's pie, not to mention a hefty beer menu and a daily happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m.
Jake O'Connor's is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Entrees run from $15 to $45, with the chicken potpie coming in on the lower end at $16.
