Classic arcade bar heading to Uptown this summer

Gen Xers, assemble! You might have been the world champ at Ms. Pac-Man back in the day, but there have been few places to show off that prowess — until now.

Up Down "nostalgia bar" will house 50 classic arcade games. There will be 48 beers on tap with a heavy local showing, and scratch pizza by the slice. If there's anything else you need in this life, we don't know what it is.

And, hooray, it's an adults-only situation: 21 and over. And, double hooray: Up Down is not here to rob you of all your laundry money. Each game is a straight-up one token to play, and tokens are never more than a quarter.

"You don't get to have an ego here," says David Hayden, media guy for the bar. "I'm looking around and I see some Celebrity Death Match on one of the screens and some classic '80s wrestling on another. We're geared toward people who are over the traditional bar scene and are looking for a little more entertainment value. We really play up the nostalgia and want people to come in here and feel like a kid again."

Minneapolis will be the third location for Up Down, which also has bars in Des Moines and Kansas City.

They're shooting for a June opening at 3012 Lyndale Ave., next to Smitten Kitten.
