It's the homestretch before Christmas, so everyone's hustling to get their last-minute shopping and cooking done before the big day. Take time out from the madness to check out one of these great (and relaxing) food opportunities before hunkering down for full-on face time with the family this weekend.

12/19 Cooks of Crocus Hill hosts one of its most popular classes tonight: Professional Approach to Basics. Students will learn basic techniques from a Le Cordon Bleu instructor before heading to the kitchen to apply those skills to actual recipes. This is the first of a four-part series of classes, and this session begins with stocks, sauteing, boiling/steaming, and sauces. The series, which costs $365, runs December 19 21, January 2, and 3 from 6 to 9 p.m.

12/20 The Grog, Glogg, and More at Town Hall begins Tuesday at 5 p.m. with a special batch of mulled ale mixed up just for the occasion. Of course, there will also be glogg (mulled wine), both of which are complimentary. Tuesday also marks the release of Town Hall's Triple beer, and you can dip into Grinch's Grog (a heavy American pale ale), Elves Elixir (a trappist IPA), and Festivus (a winter black lager made with cherries)--plenty of ways to wet your whistle. Buy a growler of each holiday beer and save $3.

12/21 Hump day is also free-bacon day at the Triple Rock Social Club, where a basket of free bacon is available until the last greasy slice is snatched up. Pair your pork with a $3 PBR tallboy and you've got life by the ass. The pig comes out at 9 p.m.

12/25 Does a visit from Santa make you too lethargic to cook? Then head to M St. Cafe at the St. Paul Hotel, which is offering an extravagant Christmas day brunch. For $24.95 you can dive into a cold side board (think fresh fruit, shrimp cocktail, yogurt parfaits, squash bisque) and a hot side board (chef-carved prime rib with garlic au jus, Yukon buttermilk mashed potatoes, grilled salmon, etc).
