For years, finding French pastry in the Twin Cities meant your choices were pretty much limited to Patrick's French Bakery and the cafe in the Sofitel. But recent openings have been spreading macarons all over the metro, most notably with the arrival of Pardon My French in Eagan and Patisserie 46 in Minneapolis.
Maple Grove will soon get its own French bakery, Chez Arnaud, which should be opening any day now, the Star Tribune reports, in a space just off 494, south of the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes. The namesake behind the shop is French pastry chef Arnaud de Rambures, who is opening Chez Arnaud with the help of his former co-worker Raoul Vinson.
Rambures and Vinson imported ovens from France to bake bread and pastries including brioche, pain au chocolate and the hard-to-find canelés (here's to hoping they're as good as the ones at Patisserie!). They'll also offer sandwiches, espresso, jams, and house-made ice cream.
