Celebrity Chef Tour comes to Minneapolis
Dining at the James Beard House in New York City is an experience very few people enjoy. Since chances are slim that any of us will ever be invited, the next best thing is happening in Minneapolis on Thursday: The Celebrity Chef Tour creates the experience of those dinners at Solera with co-host Tim McKee, Beard's Best Chef Midwest, 2009.
For those not familiar, James Beard, who passed away in 1985, was a great supporter of the art of American cuisine who sought to share his knowledge of fine food and wine not only with professional chefs but with great lovers of food. The event on Thursday is a benefit for the James Beard Foundation's funding of the House, a place where budding chefs can showcase their talents. The foundation also offers scholarships and educational opportunities to new chefs, along with bestowing the esteemed James Beard Award.
McKee will work alongside visiting chef Susur Lee, a Hong Kong-born virtuoso and Top Chef Master finalist, who combines the arts of Chinese and traditional French cooking in a unique fusion. Expect the extraordinary as the two chefs mingle with the crowd and share tasting menus with wine, beer, and spirits pairings.
