After a fire early this morning, Casper and Runyon's Nook "is toast," reports Tom Casper, an initial investor in the Nook and co-owner Ted Casper's father.
"I would say they'll be down for three months," estimates Casper. The Nook, a popular St. Paul burger spot, celebrated its tenth anniversary in October.
At Shamrock's, the other Casper and Runyon's restaurant in St. Paul, Casper was busy seating the lunch crowd. Our waitress took a minute's rest from running around the room to tell a couple of customers that the influx of the lunch crowd from the Nook made today's lunch rush doubly busy.
Until the Nook reopens, Shamrock's welcomes Nook customers and also will try to "absorb some of their employees," says Casper.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined, according to Casper, though they suspect old wiring or a refrigerator cord is at fault.
