St. Paul's newest sports bar, Bullpen Sports Saloon, is settling into its downtown location, after opening in early December. We stopped by for a look around and a bite to eat.

While Bullpen doesn't offer an extensive menu, the restaurant is a true sports bar through and through. Fans can indulge their weekend ritual by watching their game of choice on one of many TVs, all while enjoying Bullpen's self-proclaimed largest bloody Mary bar in the state--only available Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

And with Wild hockey back in action, the Bullpen hopes to get busy before games, boasting drink specials and free shuttles to Wild games at the nearby Xcel Energy Center, along with ticket and jersey raffles before some games.

Their one-page menu offers only the staples of bar food. Nachos, jalapeno bites, burgers, pulled pork, and a whole variety of hot dogs is about all you'll find at Bullpen, and no fryer in the kitchen means no French fries; you'll be getting chips with your burger. But Bullpen also throws in a couple salads, the "Cheeto Crusted Chicken Sandwich," and a unique and very tasty Olive Burger (with cream cheese and olive tapenade), infusing variety into the limited options.

The new establishment also has a full bar with 15 to 20 tap beers daily (including many craft beers), pool tables, bean bags, and video games. Topping that off is weekly Thursday night karaoke, live music most weekends, and a daily happy hour.

Bullpen Sports Saloon is at 395 Robert Street, in the old Buttery location. It's skyway-accessible and open every day from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Happy hour is Monday through Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. and 10 to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. and 8 to 10 p.m., and all day Sunday. Specials include $3 select taps, bottles and rails; $4 craft, import, tap, bottles, and call drinks; and $5 top-shelf drinks.
